Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought many changes in people's lives. People's habit patterns have changed since the world was declared in a pandemic condition. The government has made various efforts to suppress the spread of the virus, such as work from home, PSBB and PPKM. People are encouraged to minimize activities outside the home.  The public is also recommended or even now it is a must to apply the health protocols set by WHO to avoid exposure to the virus. This study aims to identify the objective and subjective meanings and the internalization process related to the application of health protocols during the pandemic. The method used is descriptive qualitative. Data was collected by observation and in-depth interviews with informants. This research was assisted by the theoretical foundation of social construction belonging to Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckman. The results state that the process of the externalization stage can be seen when the community begins to adapt to pandemic conditions by implementing health protocols as a form of self-protection so as not to be infected with the virus. Then the objectification is seen from the people who run the health protocols to avoid the virus. Finally, the internalization stage where the public has understood the dangers of the corona virus and the importance of implementing health protocols obtained through socialization.

Abstract

Covid-19 has a social effect. Various new views on Covid-19 patients, families and medical personnel have created various stigmas in society. Giving stigma is certainly mentally inviting because it can have an atmosphere effect, both for the mental health of patients and families as well as the process of stopping the spread of the virus itself. This study aims to explore and identify the experiences and strategies of former Covid-19 patients in dealing with the stigmatization of society. The method in this research is qualitative by using a phenomenological approach. The results showed that Covid-19 gave rise to labeling and stigma on Covid-19 patients and their families. The provision of stigma by the community is carried out by labeling or stereotyping, separation, elimination of status, and even discriminatory attitudes. The strategies used by former Covid-19 patients in dealing with community stigmatization are increasing communication and increasing the intensity of interaction between family members, staying at home, not visiting (conducting regular visits), strengthening and motivating fellow family members, not doing motivational activities and negative treatment of society, surrender, sincerity, and be patient and pray. These strategies are used to maintain the physical, mental, and psychological health of patients and family members.

Abstract

At the end of 2021, the East Java labor alliance flocked to carry out demonstrations at several important points, such as the Grahadi Building in Surabaya and district or city offices from each region. This demonstration was attended by workers from various regencies or cities in East Java, such as Gresik, Surabaya, Malang, Kediri, and so on. This action was carried out with the aim of demanding an increase in labor wages by 2022. Unlike the previous year, the demonstration was carried out in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. Departing from this reality, the author was prompted to analyze the existence of awareness and struggle of East Java workers in demanding wages during the Covid-19 pandemic which was analyzed using Karl Marx's theory of Awareness and Class Struggle. This research utilizes a qualitative approach with a literature study method. The source of this research comes from secondary data, namely online news, books, and journals. The results of this study show that even in the Covid-19 pandemic situation in Indonesia and in the pouring rain, all East Java labor alliances still take action to take to the streets in rejecting cheap wage increases in 2022, as predicted by Karl Marx.

Abstract

The phenomenon of lumpang as one of the points of view in the idea of culture as the basis for people's actions shows that lumpang is not just a symbol that is only literally accentuated. Instead, what appears is a symbol of the practice of community social values. Symbols in sociology are not merely things that have no life in their relationships. The approach used is qualitative through the depth of interview (interpretative understanding). The analysis used is the analysis model from Miles and Hubermen, which rotates like a cycle, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusion. The result showed that lumpang is the basis for community economic knowledge and lumpang is a culture that remains as the subject. The conclusion of this research is that lumpang as a subject in a homogeneous society is the subject is good manners, the subject is awareness to respect others, the subject is awareness to protect, and the subject is submission. The four things symbolized by lumpang are important links in the way people understand nature. There is space to use without having to eliminate traces of nature. This is a subject that realizes not the given subject.

Abstract

The patriarchal culture that is rooted in Indonesia, especially in the Javanese, triggers many problems, especially on relations between genders. Gender inequality in patriarchal culture plays a big role in the occurrence of sexual violence in society, including on campus. There are still many cases of sexual violence on campus that are not reported, one of the reasons is because the victims remain silent. This study aimed to examine the influence of patriarchy in Javanese culture on sexual violence victims on campus who choose to silence themselves. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach with narrative review method by studying and analyzing literature from various scientific articles that are relevant to the research topic. Strong patriarchal culture in society and the trauma experienced by victims plays a big role in causing them to be reluctant to report what they have experienced and choose to silence themselves. Thus, these findings suggest that self-silencing is carried by victims to maintain interpersonal relationships, avoid conflict, and maintain physical and or psychological safety as a way of protecting oneself in a patriarchal environment.
